1923 "Bernina" Hotel opens
Built on several occasions between 1920 and 1930, by Attilio Silvestri, considered by many to be one of the first true hoteliers in Livigno.
Born from a family devoted mainly to the cultivation of meadows and cattle breeding, in the years preceding the First World War he had served in hotels in the neighboring Engadine, as a porter, lifter and also assistant cook at the "Bernina" of Samedan. Learned the art, plans the construction of the Hotel.
The rooms of the building were almost all in wood, in each of them small stoves were placed.
Since there is no centralized hydraulic system, the water was recovered with buckets from a well that was located in the basement of the house, near the kitchen.
The electric light was drawn from the control unit of the "Restèl".
Attentive to foreign tourism, Attilio specially sent the horse-drawn sleighs to the Drossa to welcome German tourists.
With the construction of the new Hotel the management then passed to his son Francesco and is still handed down from generation to generation.
